Copy of Last Will and Testament of Mrs. Frances Crawford

This the last Will and Testament of me Frances Crawford of Stratford on Avon
in the County of Warwick, Widow of Captn J. Crawford late of same place, deceased.
First I will and direct all my just debts and funeral and testamentary
expenses to be fully paid and discharged.
  I give and bequeath unto my eldest son, the Revd. J. R. Crawford, Clerk,
Head Master of the grammar school at Berkhampstead in the County of Herts. all the plate, Linen, Books, and Household Furniture that I may be ppossessed of at the time of my decease, absolutely to his own use. I also give and bequeath unto my said son John Robert Crawford, the sum of £700 Saint Catherine Dock Stock - part of the stock which I now have upon that security or undertaking and I do hereby will and declare that the aforesaid sum of £700 Stocks so bequeathed to my said son J. R. C. shall be inclusivley liable to the payment thereout of all such sum and sums of Money as may at the time of my decease be charged upon the entirety of my said stocks and to the full exoneration of the other parts thereof. I also give and bequeath unto my said son J.R.C. the sum of £400 sterling due me on a mortgage bond of the Preston & Wyan Road North of Garrow in the County of Palatine of Lancaster bearing date on or about the third day of June 1854.

I also give and bequeath unto my second son C.C.C. - now residing in Alscot

Farm, Township of Dunn, County of Haldimand, Canada West, the sum of £200 Saint Catharine Dock Stock, other part of the aforesaid stocks which I now have upon that security or undertaking, absolutely discharged from the payment of or contribution to any sum or sums of money charged upon the entirety of the said stock as aforesaid. I also give and bequeath unto my said son Charles C. Crawford the sum of £400 Sterling due to me upon the mortgage security of Alscot Farm aforesaid and also one Chattel Mortgage for £250 Sterling held by me upon the same farm and also the sum of £400 sterling due to me upon a mortgage Bond of the Preston & Wyan Road aforesaid having date on or about the 2 day of March 1826.

Also - I give and bequeath unto my third son D.C. now residing in Toronto, in

the City of Toronto, C.W. the sum of £500 St. Catherine Dock stock other part of the said other part of the aforesaid Stock which I now have upon that security or undertaking and in like manner also discharged from any sum or sums of money so charged upon the entirety of the said stock as aforesaid.
I also give and devise unto my fourth son J. U. C. now residing at Elmwood,
Township of Dunn, County of Haldimand, C.W. all my reversionary estate and interest in a farm called Lake View, being lots 9 & 10, 4 Con. Township of Dunn, County of Haldimand, C.W. to hold to him, his heirs, executors, Administrators and assigns for ever to his and their own absolute use and benefit. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Dalrymple Crawford and Andrew Blott of Lake Erie Shore, C.W. the sum of £700 St. Catherine Dock Stock other part of the Stock which I have upon that security or undertaking and in like manner discharged from any sum or sums of money, so charged upon the entirety of my said stock as aforesaid to be held by them the said D. Crawford and A. Blott, their executors and administrators upon trust in the first place to make such arrangement and payments thereout as they may approve with and to the Creditors of my said son J.U. Crawford, who may have claims on him arising from his business in Stratford, C.W. and as to the surplus money, thereof upon trust to stand possessed of the same and to be appropriated by them for the benefit of the family of my said son J.U.C. in such manner as they and said trustees may in their own discretion consider best.
Also I give and bequeath unto my fifth son F.S. Crawford now or lately
residing in Australia £1000 St Catherine Dock Stock other part of the aforesaid stocks which I have upon that security or undertaking and in like manner absolutely discharged from any sum or sums of money charged upon the entirety of the said stock, as aforesaid and also the sum of £400 Str due to me on a Mortgage Bond of the aforesaid Preston & Wyan Road, bearing date on or about the 2 day of Aug 1823.
  And also the residue of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and
wheresoever I give and bequeath the same unto and especially between my saidfive sons share and share alike and unto their several and respective Executors and Administrators without lapse by their or any or either of their deaths in my lifetime.
  I do hereby nominate and appoint my said sons J. Robert Crawford and
Dalrymple Crawford, Executors thereof and as to all such hereditaments and possessions as are vested in me as Trustee or Mortgagee and wheresoever situate and being. I devise the same unto my said sons J.R.C. & D.C. and their heirs and Administrators subject to the Trusts and equities effecting the same respectively, and I exempt every Trustee and Executor of this my Will from liability for losses accruing to my property without their own wilful default and I authorize them to retain to themselves and to pay each other all expenses incurred in the executing thereof.
  In witness thereof I have set my hand to the first sheet hereof and my hand
and seal to this second and last sheet hereof.
  This 2nd day of Oct. 1856
